Gully Lake Wilderness Area

Cross-Country Skiing at Gully Lake Wilderness Area
A guided cross-country ski excursion through hardwood forest trails within the provincially-designated wilderness area located near Mount Thom. The 3,810 hectare (9,400 acre) Gully Lake Wilderness Area protects the largest remaining patch of mature forest in the Truro-Pictou area and was home to the Hermit of Gully Lake. Winter snow cover is fairly reliable. Bring your cross country skis, lunch, water, and proper clothing. Suitable for adults and youth 12 years or older. Participants are responsible for their own transportation. Car pooling will be coordinated for those interested. Sponsored by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment-Protected Areas Branch. Join the Saint Mary’s University Environmental Society (SMUES) and Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) for the 2nd annual WildernessAid. Hike (or snowshoe) 8km around the Uniacke Estate trails as a group, taking in the beauty Nova Scotia wilderness has to offer. Free transportation, lunch, and equipment are provided. All you need is an appetite for adventure! WildernessAid is a pledge-by-km fundraiser open to anyone and everyone interested, regardless of previous outdoor experience or physical fitness. Participants are asked to collect pledges in support of the CPAWS, Nova Scotia Chapter and their efforts in wilderness protection across the province. Eco-friendly draw prizes are available to be won. Pre-registration along with a $10 registration fee are required by Monday February 1st, NO LATER!
